virtual shoots

Remote shoots were a project that I started in 2020 when we were all confined to our homes - but life didn’t stop. There were people getting married, having babies, making milestones and I felt that it was important to document even if it was done in a new way. Some of those images can be seen here. Now - I’d like to bring these back because remote (virtual) shoots allow me to photograph beyond state and country lines. It allows me to connect with you despite our difference and collaborate to make something really special. They are done with guidance by me and a sense of openness and creativity by you. Please scroll below to read how it’s done and if it’s the right choice for you.

virtual shoot guide

  • Virtual shoots are made possible via a phone app called CLOS. It can be downloaded here. Images are taken through your device, controlled by me, and then stored on my device.

When images are being transferred to my device (which can take awhile) the app MUST remain open.

You will be invited via text to a “room” where the shoot will take place. This will be done right before the session starts.

  • These shoots are most successful when you have a good way of propping your phone up so you can be hands free. Ideally you would invest in a phone tripod - and you can see your options here. This will allow us to move about easily or even have the phone pointed at you on the floor to get the most creative with our shoots. The more setup you can do prior to the shoot the better. Putting your tripod on a stool or a rolling cart or a ladder is also great.

  • Since I won’t have time to scope out your home prior to the shoot it is up to you to find a few locations that will be ideal. The most important aspects of this is going to be light! Get creative! We can use indoors/outdoors, small corners of the floor … wherever the light is the strongest.

  • It’s imperative that everyone understands how collaborative these are! Since I cannot move around freely you will have to be open to trying new things and experimenting with me. But don’t be afraid because I will be talking to you and guiding you the entire time. At times (if there are other people involved) I may even have you be the human tripod and help assist.

  • Please make sure that you have good audio and great wifi. Since technology is the thing that makes this possible - we have to stay within the confines of it. Wifi is IMPERATIVE as is good sound - so take your phone out of the case if that prevents you from hearing.

  • Virtual shoots are $400. You will receive ~ 50 black and white digital images.
